As part of a survey about their experience at Massachusetts General Hospital, hospital patients are asked whether they would recommend the hospital to their friends and family. This information provides us with insight into the overall experience of care at MGH.
Ninety-one percent (91%) of MGH inpatients surveyed indicated that they would "definitely recommend" MGH to their friends and family. This exceeded the current Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) national average of 72% and Massachusetts state average of 74% (Jan - Dec 2016 data for both benchmarks). MGH has routinely surveyed patients about their experiences for more than a decade, and we typically score very highly on these summary measures. Our improvement efforts are directed at more specific aspects of the patient's experience, which helps to enhance willingness to recommend the hospital.
